What if I would say that Twitter is taking over Facebook? Would you believe me? Perhaps not “take over” as if Facebook been purchased or overtaken but what about hashtags for Facebook? The Unofficial Facebook blog AllFacebook reports that development for adding “hashtags” is happening.
What would that mean? For example that you could search for discussions around particular topic, search for images with a hashtag (as photo-sharing application Instagram already uses this and was acquired by Facebook last September) or aiding targeted advertising.
From a company perspective this might also enhance quality of social media monitoring as today conversations taking place behind private Facebook profiles and only public posts are picked by “social media monitoring” tools/services. Another opportunity could be to find brand advocates that are sharing their view of brand in hashtag conversations. And what about goals for marketers, ROI of social media campaigns.
